Black Backed Woodpecker

We went for a ride today, its very cool and crisp, real fall weather you might say.
And as usual I turn the car towards the cemetery for our weekly visit with Mom and Dad before the big snows start and we can no longer go in there safely.

Today as we approached my Grandmother's monument in one of the pine trees nearby I saw this beautiful woodpecker, its a Black Backed Woodpecker,he had a splash of yellow on his head, he didn't care that we were parked there watching him going to town making a hole for what ever it is he wanted.
I have never seen a woodpecker up close like that and I thought I would share with you.

I have never seen one like that but we have the red-headed. We have one that likes to peck on our vent pipe on the roof during warm days. It is a real pest.
Thanks for sharing.

Oh Diane, I wish I could capture one like that! I don't often see woodpeckers. He's a handsome one!

Diane, what a great shot! I love woodpeckers, and there are some on the endangered list from what I've heard. He seems to be a busy little fellow and so cute!

Thanks for visiting me today! I appreciate the kind words and have enjoyed your blog in return.

XO,

Sheila :-)

I've seen woodpeckers - but not this kind. Love that splash of color on his head - very jaunty!

I've never seen a Black Backed Woodpecker before, how neat! We only ever get the Downy Woodpecker and they usually stick around all summer long. We have so many pictures of them! lol You really got a terrific shot of this one. xoxo

How nice of you to share this photo, Diane. He's a beauty. I hope you have a great day.

Thanks for the information about the Elm tree in your backyard. I'm not sure that I want a tree that big in my small front yard; I'm still thinking Palm tree.
