Sitting in a freezer !!!!!!

This morning as I type this the temperature is minus 37 with the windchill its near minus 50!

Were experincing freezing fog.... what is that you ask.....

What is freezing fog?

Learned a new weather term today. It's 'freezing fog.'

First noticed it when I was checking the weather and saw the words 'snow freezing fog' applied to the description of what's going on up there right now.

Well, I'd never heard of that before. (And after having lived in this region all of my life, I thought I'd heard all the weather terms there were.) After a vision of a B-horror movie kind of vicious, snow-freezing fog, I decided to google it.

A definition from the National Weather Service:

Freezing fog occurs when the water droplets that the fog is composed of are "supercooled". Supercooled water droplets remain in the liquid state until they come into contact with a surface upon which they can freeze. As a result, any object the freezing fog comes into contact with will become coated with ice. The same thing happens with freezing rain or drizzle.

And it looks a little something like this...

It means ice crystals are in the air, you breath it in .When its this cold you cannot expose skin too long, its very serious weather.~~~~~~Just lovely stuff ........

I am dreaming of a warm place in the sun right now......... oh well only 4 more months of cold left I can do this... I think.... been doing it 57 years, its getting harder as I get older!!

I will have a second cup of coffee and visit all of you this morning ,so put the coffee on here I come!!!

The coffee is ready, Diane! What do you take in yours? I'm so glad to be back visiting with everyone. Thanks for your words of comfort and your prayers.
I think that "freezing fog" is a new term, I never heard of it before this year. We are having an arctic blast here in Texas, too, but I won't tell you the temp, because you'd only laugh!
Gotta run, I've still got 400+ posts to catch up on; I will need lots of coffee today...

This year it seems like they are coming up with new terms.
Last month we had what they called Thunder-Snow.
We have also had our share of the freezing fog.

OMG Diane, you better stay in. I couldn't imagine that type of weather, but I've lived in Texas almost all my life. We are suppose to have a freeze tomorrow night from the front that has hit up North, but nothing like what you all are having to deal with. Stay safe and warm.

Aren't these temperatures just ridiculous?! This morning it was -37c when I woke up and we hit a "high" of -25c today! lol This deep freeze is supposed to last a few more days...then by next Thursday they're saying -2c. Go figure!

The internet was down for a few hours this morning, I guess due to the frigid air, so I wrapped myself up in a blanket and lay down in front of the fireplace to watch tv...I didn't want to move from there all day! lol

Those cartoons cracked me up! hehe xoxo

Sitting in my car on the way home from work tonight I was thinking "why the heck am I doing this?" Cause even if it's freaking cold, we had some 30 below wind chills today - it's home. But damn!

Our temps are supposed to get down to 7F tonight (-13.9C). That's colder than a well digger's backside for folks here in Arkansas! Stay warm up there!

We are cooling down from a heat spell here in Southern California. We have just moved from 85 to 75 degrees. I'm sure you would love to trade. Me, well I prefer cool winters. But not as cold as yours. Yikes!

I know people think we are wimps when it gets cold, but when we're used to higher temps, any huge drop will chill us. Our night temps have been in the 40's. We just aren't acclimated to that.

Stay warm,
KJ

Yuck! Well, I must say that that freezing fog is awfully pretty, if nothing else! We just had the first day where the temps have gotten over zero in a week (actually they said we had over 92 hours of it!) Then it snowed! lol Hang in there and wrap up in a nice quilt!

I know it can be dangerous... but isn't it beautiful? We don't get freezing fog often in Colorado but occasionally we do and I love how it turns the whole world into a crystal fairy place.

p.s. thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday =)
