African Violets in A Basket

My mother gave me the basket years ago , this is how it looks today I just wanted to show you how pretty it is.The violets are all in bloom at the same time.Except for one in the back, I turned it to face the sun ( its diffused light)so it would remember to do what its suppose to do and flower like the others..
African Violets are so easy to grow for me ,I water when they are dry not before and dont put any water on the leaves or else the leaves rot and fall off and basically ignore them , they don't like to be touched so just look with your eyes not with your hands...

This is the other one I have ,it bloomed at the same time, its also facing the sun in diffused light.
My son had an African Violet plant my mother gave him when he was in university years ago that thing grew into giant proportions and had flowers all the time.....being a young busy man my advice to ignore worked for him ...LOL!!!

Maybe that's my problem. I need to ignore them. Thanks for the tip.

Oh sure, now you tell me that I'm not supposed to wet the leaves and I need to almost ignore the plant...after having killed a few violet plants that I had! lol It's no wonder mine never survived or bloomed half the time.

I haven't forgotten about your email, will soon find time to answer it:-) xoxo

My grandmother always had so many pretty ones. I think I take care of mine too well and drown them.

Yours are just gorgeous.

I used to have African Violets, Diane, but I never had four different colors in one pot! You're amazing. How special to be able to use your mother's basket.

(The reason I had to stop growing the AVs is because we moved, and they didn't like their new home!)

Oh Diane, I'm so impressed with your 'green thumb' .... or should I say lack of it. I didn't know they were so easy to grow .... thanks for the tips .
Your violets are so pretty and the containers too.

Diane,I had several African Violets many years ago, but they were very particular about which window they preferred. As time went by, I was not able to satisfy them with that particular setting for just the right light exposure, and never had good luck with them again, so I gave up. I use to start new plants from leaf cutting, too.I may give them one more try. Yours are beautiful.

P.S. I forgot to mention one thing. I was told you need to treat them like a pet and talk to them while you are caring for them. That could possibly be a myth, but a little affection never hurts anything.

How beautiful, Diane! My problem is too much attention. When I had them I clumsily got water on the leaves. You're right, they pout and die on you unless they're properly ignored.

Just stumbled on your blog, and I had to smile at your African violets. My mother loved African violets, and spent years trying to grow them. Unfortunately, our cats loved to bat them about, and in the end, the cat stayed and the violets left.

Your violets are just gorgeous!! I have tried them several times but they didn't thrive for me. By reading your advice I realize I wasn't watering them correctly. I probably drowned them. Poor things!

I love the violets. My g'ma use to always have them and could start new ones so easy. I haven't really seen any in several years!
