Project New Roof !

Its time for a new roof, the old one is about 15 or so years old and I knew it was time to do it, we started with a new chimney and it looked great when it was finished ,the guy did a gorgeous job, if chimneys are gorgeous, this one is !

The guy who did our chimney offered to do my roof and I agreed, he started in the back and worked all day and did a quarter of the house, then the rains came he he didn't for the better part of 2 weeks, I wasen't happy with his job all the new shingles were curled up to the sky, it looked worst than my old roof, today he finally came back and I quized him on the curling shingles he assured me that they would eventually lay down ,hummmmmmmmm........

I called my hubby's best friend who is a master mason, he has built a lot of houses and did this sort of thing for a living and I value his opinion just simply based on being a close long time friend. He told me the roof guy didn't have a clue of what he was doing , nothing was even and he ruined the shingles he did on his first day.Meaning I would have to have it re-done.And pay for the same service and product twice.

Today my roof guy came I let him work half the day then I could see he was doing it again so I asked him to stop working and I paid him and asked him to leave, his mouth dropped !

There are many firsts for me since John passed away and again today was a first for me.....
Standing up for myself and my home that was hard earned and I am very proud of > I fired the man right then and there on the spot for doing a bad job.He had no pride in his work and it showed, he was more concerned about his hour long smoke breaks...

I called a professional company that came withing a half hour , and did more in 15 minutes than the guy did in 2 days. And they will redo the crooked curled shingles in the back. And spray insulation in the attic and do the soffit and fashia work as well.

Today I became the ((Man Of The House )) and stood up for myself and my principal and work ethics !!

I didn't like doing it but the thought of looking at a badly shingled roof for the better part of 20 years I just could not accept his shoddy work .

Tomorrow 7 am the rest of the roof is going up !!

There are a lot of things you will have to do, it's tough. But it sounds like you did a great job being in charge and doing what you had to do. I'm so proud of you!

You go girl!!! That was a big step for you and don't you feel better for it? You're stronger than you thought. Not only that, but now you will have a good new roof and won't have to worry every time it rains. Loved your post.

Woo/hoo, proud of you!!!! You're a strong lady, and your strength will grow.

So good to hear you have a professional doing the job, with the other guy, you would have ended up with leaks all over..

That would be a hard pill for me to swallow. Pop always says that is what he worries about most. If he goes first,I will let everyone run over me, and take advantage of me. I have a long way to go, and a lot to learn, but I guess loosing a mate and knowing you MUST do it yourself would bring it out of you.I pray that will be the case.
You are setting a great example for those of us who may find ourselves in the same boat one day.

Way to go!!! I'm proud of you - it is never easy to fire someone. I think sometimes we let things slide because it is painful for us to have to face it - but you did great!!!!! And the new roof will shelter you and your house safely for years to come.

I'm being silly so bare with me: You should have had roofers come in June to do your roof. When they get hot up there they take their shirts off and whoo-eeee what a nice sight. Roofers are muscular men. Well the ones who came to do my roof back in July were. Bravo to you for becoming the Man of the house. Mwah!

Way to go sweet friend. I am so glad that you showed him who was boss.
I hate when men think women will settle for what they say.
I finally got caught up with your past posts. Your tomatoes look so good. I did not get that many to can.
You keep on keeping strong!!!

What a disaster, Diane, but I am so glad that you stepped up and took control of the situation. I am sure it must be hard to step into that position. Way to go!!!!!

Always use a professional. It may SOUND as if it costs more, but in the long run ...

You should be very proud of yourself!! It's not easy to take on a ne, unfamiliar role. I've watched my mom go through the same thing. You're much stronger than you think you are. Blessings to you!!!

Good for you, Diane! Nola and I met for lunch yesterday, and after that we were talking to a woman working at the nursery we frequent. She was from Canada. Of course that brought up you! We would love it if you'd been able to join us. I'm glad you fired that fool. I'm having to have my pond redone. Should have not bitten my tongue and done the same first time around.

I am so proud of you! Your Ms. Pearl came out and you did what you had to do.
Calling your friend was a very good idea.
Living alone has its challenges every day but you have the courage to do it and we are all behind you 100 percent. You go honey.
I was hoping to sell my house in town before the new roof thing but so far no bites.
Hang in there
Love ya

Good for you. I bet he thought you would just roll over and never know the difference --you showed him! Maybe he'll think twice before trying that garbage on another client.

Only 15 years lapsed and you needed a new roof already? I thought they lasted for 20 years or more. Well, I'm sure there were several factors, and the weather must be #1. Is it also inconsistent there in Ontario? Btw, I'm proud of you and your achievement! I hope you keep that attitude up.

Actually, 15 years for a roof is still a good age. Hmm, probably it was not maintained well, was it? But if inconsistent weather is the main reason, it's really hard to have the roof maintained. But, there’s no need to worry about now that you have a new roof, you're back to zero when it comes to maintenance. Cheers and congrats! :)

15 years might be a shorter time than what you expected, but you do deserve to live under a roof where you can feel safe. I agree with them on the damage extreme weather conditions can bring. Well, excellent quality work will only come from professionals who are competent in their jobs, and you certainly found some of the best ones. :)
