I Dont Believe My Eyes!!!!

Last night we were listening to the late night news, and they were speculating that the price of gas will sky rocket because of IKE, my hubby and my son looked at each other got up and got dressed and one headed out the front door one left out the back door to go fill up the car and truck, this was 11.30 last night!!
This morning early my hubby was out doing errands and he saw that the price of gas did indeed sky rocket to $1.49 a liter, that translates to $ 6.56 a gallon for my American friends,do you believe that?????????????????????????
How can they justify such a huge hike in the price of gas ??????
Do they think were all millionaires????
Were an oil heated house, the bill each month last winter was around $500.00 to fill up the tank our winters are 7 months long, this winter it will be very scary I am sure..... we have already discussed it and decided to get some electric heaters in every room to augment the heat and lower the oil bill.
We also have a gorgeous wood stove in the playroom that has been dormant for years but if the price of oil goes up as expected , "Betsy" will be taken out of retirement and put to good use again, that wood stove makes the tastiest most delicious ham and turkey, the heat in there is incredible.
Ordering wood and keeping it in supply is a lot of work so we have over the years just stopped using the wood stove. But now who know???

Has the price where ever you are gone up because of IKE??? Lets compare!!

I had no idea it was so high up there; is your cost of living higher than ours altogether, or is it just the gas prices?
I noticed here that it jumped up as much a 10 cents a gallon overnight, when they heard about Ike.
I am getting up on my soapbox, here I go:
It is not right for the oil companies to gouge the public just because they can. Then they hide behind excuses like these hurricanes, etc... After the hurricane is gone, though, the price will never come back down all they way. The government should step in and regulate gas prices. They are robbing us blind, and it is all perfectly legal! Makes me so mad I could spit!

Wow! That is high.

So, get some wood, a ham, a turkey and have a party!

Seriously, oil companies are US, or at least the stock holders. (I own no stock.) They are not BAD GUYS who lurk and wait to grab our wallets. The market goes up when demand goes up; it's pretty simple.

Proof is the fact that Americans decided this summer to stay home rather than drive all over, and gas prices went down.

Oh holy cow!! I'll have to check on my way home....but I can't even believe that $6 something a gallon!? Wowsa!

Seems to be a popular topic around here too. Your day is planned on whether the gas will likely go up that day. Liquid gold. Like the Beverly Hillbilly show back in the 1960's. Are you familiar with that in Canada?

I have been using electric space heaters for a while now, to cut back on my gas bill. I was worried my electric bills would be huge but they haven't been bad at all. As long as you're careful, it's totally a viable option. I only use them in the room I am in at the time, and they always get turned off before bed.

I think that wood stove is gonna come in REAL handy this winter. I wish we had one!

We are at about $3.45-$3.49 a gal here in Lancaster county Pa.Here is a good website to find out where you can get the cheapest gas in your area...

Oh my goodness!! I was just telling my mother how much your gas costs. And I thought $4.25 a gallon was expensive. Ouch!

I hope you have a good weekend.

Sitting here waiting tp see what Ike does here in East Texas. Our church is full of evacuees and gas stations are out of gas in places from all the travelers leaving the coast to head for safety. I haven't seen the news to see if the oil refineries on the coast were demolished or not, but I guess tomorrow we will all have a better idea of what's ahead. I paid 3.65 a gallon this week for gas.

I filled my truck up earlier in the week but I think in a matter of hours it went up almost a dollar per gallon around here.

We used a wood stove for many years and I loved how it heated. I can't stand the smell of wood smoke now, since our house burned 6 yrs ago (not from the wood heater though).

Morning Diane, I thought our gas prices were high...hovering at around
$4, but $6.56 is just awful.
During the winter we have a small heater in the family room and it really helps. I also cover up with a little quilt....I tell myself this is cozy:). Have a happy weekend, hugs...Linda

The really sad thing about the price rise is that when the situation causing it is rectified it STILL doesn't come back down. Why is that?

I do like the idea of the wood stove. I grew up around one and loved the warmth it provided.

My hubby saw that report and says it is pure greed for gas to be so high.

Hi Diane,
Thank you for stopping by and leaving me such a nice comment. I live in San Antonio TX, and so far the gas prices have only gone up 10 cents or so. I don't understand why gas seller up the prices for gas they ALREADY have in their tanks. THAT gas wasn't affected by Ike. It IS a scam. When the price of oil goes up, we immediately feel the pinch. When the price of oil goes down, it takes a while to trickle down to us. Hopefully, we'll find better energy optionsm manage our resources better, and become more self-reliant very soon.
Thanks again!
Blessings,
Patricia :o)

Diane,

That is outrageous. I don't really know if the price of gas has gone up here yet. I imagine I will find out when my daughter gets back from town.

You were so smart to go fill up. I did not think of that until I got home-- and I live 16 miles from a gas station. I do think we all need to start speaking up about the financial state of our country, unfortunately, I don't know how.

We do use a wood stove, have for years, and I love it.

Alice said...

Atrocious! My husband can tell you the price at every gas station around town because he follows them so closely.

Alexandra MacVean said...

I sure hope you and your family are OK. Thinking of you and praying for you.

Awful.
I say we really should pray at the pump as well as everywhere else!
I don't like to 'run around' but unfortunately it is miles for me to get anywhere living in the sticks.

In the last week or two it's only gone up approx. 30 cents a gallon. I believe it was a low as $3.34 in a neighboring city 2 weeks ago. This morning when I filled up it was $3.69 a gallon. I hope it doesn't continue to go up... I drive 37 miles (one way) to work. At some point, it probably cost me $$$ just to have a full time job. LOL xoxo, Joanna

That is outrageous! I'm not sure what our price of gas is, but I know it has gone up in the last few days. Your woodstove will be cozy this winter.

Diane, I don't know where you live but we're in north central PA in the US. Our kilowat hours for electricity aren't that high. We have a total electric home and we love it for heating because we can turn off rooms we aren't using. Our bills average $160 a month on the year-round budget for everything. Our last house was oil heat. Forget it! 15 years ago it was $250 a month. I can imagine what it would be now!

It's a huge problem for everyone now, deciding the best way to heat a home safely and economically.

When's it going to end!
