Thrift Store Find !

Last week when my daughter came up to visit, we made time to go visit a few thrift stores, it was actually my daughter who spotted this blue beauty !
Its an enamel cast iron dutch oven in the most gorgeous cobalt blue color and best of all it was only $30.00 !!!
And it was brand new perfect condition !
Such a lucky find ~!
Today was the day to try it out, I made a beef stew and it was sooooo darn good, better than usual I must say!
I did all my usual steps in preparation then put it in my oven at 350% after an hour I lowered it to 250% and left to go for a country ride and a coffee after wards with my hubby and my mother in law...( yes it tough being retired).
When we got home ohhh the smell in the house.....I steamed some green beans to add and voila dinner was served. Its been so hot these days we eat light so it was nice to have a hot meal... I love salad and broiled salmon , once in a while a nice hot meal is good too !
So I have to say I love this thing!!
I will make chili in it and pasta sauce and all manners of delish things...
Do you have a good recipe for a dutch oven I am a newby to this method of cooking.
Worth every darn penny ... hehehe.. . I know they are worth a small fortune too...
PS .... 28 pounds by the way !! ( Can't believe it myself)

Yay for the 28..awesome! The stew sounds great, love the pot! I had an orange one like it, used it for years as I was cooking for my family and just loved it. One of my sons put in a gentle request for it ..when I passed on...so as they built and moved into their home, I gave it to him as a house warming gift! :D

Love it.I use cast iron.
Love the even heat.
WE like Green beans cooked in the dutch oven seasoned with Bacon Grease. I know its not olive oil lol but so good. Here in the south we love our Bacon grease. lol
Happy Cooking!

What a deal! Those things are really expensive. I use mine for short ribs, osso bucco and all sorts of stews. I love mine so I know you will love yours too.

What a great find! My kids got me this same pot for Christmas one year. Cannot begin to tell you how much I've used it. The even heat of cast iron is truely amazing. I make lots of different soups in my pot that everyone seems to enjoy. One of our favorite recipies is called "German Pizza". If you go to Taste of Home.com you can find it. This recipie works great with the cast iron cookware. I usually subsitute Bob Evans sausage for the hamburger. If you have trouble finding it, e-mail me and I'll send you the link. Happy cooking!
